Harvard Alpaca ranch

Fiber • Farm Store • Farm Tours

Harvard Alpaca Ranch is a full-service alpaca farm, open to the public for tours year-round. We pride ourselves on our beautiful and healthy herd of alpacas. During your visit, you will learn about the history of the alpaca from South America to Harvard and hear our story of how a visit to a farm in Maine inspired us to start our own farm. Like all farms, our farm changes seasonally from springtime shearing season to summertime when we welcome new babies to winter when the alpacas are at their fluffiest! In addition to tours, we offer alpaca yoga sessions, alpaca agisting (boarding), shearing services, stud services from our award winning males, and mentoring to up-and-coming alpaca farm owners. We also alpaca-assisted therapy services (both on-farm and off-farm). In our Alpaca Shop, you will find a wide range of alpaca products from items made on the farm to wonderful, Massachusetts made products from the New England Alpaca Fiber Pool to items imported from Peru, the original home of the alpaca. From socks to hats and carves, blankets, and alpaca stuffies, we have something for everyone!

Harvard General Store

Local Business

The Harvard General Store (built, 1896) is a café, kitchen, bakery, prepared foods, package store, gift shop and grocery, carrying many local harvard products. We are the commercial and social heart of our small New England town; a place where friends meet for coffee, kids come after school for a snack and neighbors share the latest news. We serve breakfast and lunch daily, a limited dinner service on our dining patio and offer a hand tossed gourmet take out pizza. As always there is beer on tap and wine by the glass. Visit our website for more information. We look forward to welcoming you to our historic General Store and restaurant at the foot of the common.

Maple Syrup Producers

Nestled in the valley between winter and spring lies maple sugaring season. When the sun of the coming spring warms the cold mornings. At Harvard Maple Producers, a small family operation, sap is gathered by hand and boiled over a wood fired arch, to produce what we feel is the essence of springtime. Assorted grades and sizes are sold at Westward Orchards Farm Store on rte. 111 here in Harvard.

Old Frog Pond Farm

Roadside Stand • Produce • Farm Tours • Pick Your Own

Old Frog Pond Farm is one of the few Certified Organic Orchards in Massachusetts. In the fall we open for pick your own apples and raspberries. In the spring we open our self-serve farm stand with greens and early season vegetables. We host an Annual Outdoor Sculpture Exhibit, present workshops, and gather for Plein Air Poetry and other community events. Blase Provitola and Linda Hoffman are the farmers. Our growing philosophy can be summed up as ‘Feed the Soil, Heal the Earth.’ We believe that healthy soils produce the most nutrient rich food. Our work begins in the soil. We support the farmers ‘underground’—the bacteria, fungi, earth worms, and other creatures who support our plants. We apply foliar sprays of seaweed and a host of minerals. We activate our plants' immune system with nettle, equisetum, and comfrey teas made from these beneficial herbs that grow in abundance on the farm. The farm has been certified organic since 2006. Art is also an important part of life at Old Frog Pond Farm. Orchardist Artist Linda Hoffman’s studio is here and her art as well as sculptures by other New England artists are installed in the farmscape. The farm sends out a “Poem of the Month” to subscribers, participates in Bolton/ Harvard’s Open Studios, and Hoffman writes a weekly blog, “Apples, Art, and Spirt.” Check our website for our everchanging activities and offerings and plan a visit!
